8U Curriculum Week 5 Session 1 and 2




8U Week 5 Session 1
Passing

Warm Up/Activity – 15 minutes
Horseshoes
Position 2 cones 10-15 yards apart, with two players at each cone. A player's teammate is across at the other cone. One at a time, each player passes to their own partner and that partner has one touch to control the ball as close to the cone as possible. 1 pt for stopping the ball within 1 ft of the cone, the team with the most points at the end of time wins. Play a 2 minute game. Switch opponent after each game.
Coaching Points:
Passing:
  Ball should stay on the ground

ock ankle
heel down, toe up
use inside of foot to pass to get best control of the ball
plant foot (non kicking foot) even with the ball and pointing in the direction of the pass
Receiving:
  Move the body (shuffle feet) to get in line of the ball – don't stick out foot
Position foot and cushion impact of the ball
Be on toes

Scrimmage – 15 minutes
Split players evenly into teams and let them play.

8U Week 5 – Session 2
Passing

Warm Up/Activity – 15 minutes
Passing Gates
Within the practice area, use cones to represent 6 or more goals each 2-3 yards wide randomly positioned throughout the area. Each player needs a partner and one ball for the two players. Players attempt to pass the ball through a goal to their partner for a point. The ball may be passed through either side of the goal, but not twice consecutively through the same goal. Time the players for 1 minute as they count the number of points they are able to score. Repeat trying to beat their previous score.
